Dylan Collins

Associate Professor
Sculpture School of Art and Design, College of Creative Arts & Media

“What I love the most about being an advisor is that on an almost weekly basis, I am humbled, enlightened, and energized by the ways that academic advising touches every aspect of the WVU experience.”

Dylan’s advising experiences range from first-year students in Studio Art, Art Education, Art History and Museum Studies, Art Therapy, Design Studies, Fashion Design and Merchandising, and Interior Architecture.  When he began at WVU in 2008, he quickly learned his skills in the classroom setting – compassion, patience, problem solving – easily translated into skills necessary for academic advising.  He notes the many opportunities advising provides to zoom out and understand academic programs on a deeper level, such as students’ diverse generational perspectives as well as the dedication of administrators, teachers, and staff who all work to help students meet their creative and career goals.

Dylan assists and mentors faculty advisers, honors students, transfer students and students interested in creative minors.  He advises students to keep asking questions and become their own best advocate.  “Dylan’s reputation as an adviser and human being is outstanding around our school,” colleague Alexander Hoy notes. “He is extremely approachable and always thoughtful toward other’s wants and needs.”
