“Be willing to learn and open your mind to new opportunities. Find some type of organizational/planning method that works for you and stick to it. Go to class!! Balance your fun time and school time, because both are important.”
Jenna came to WVU with a background in Psychology and mental health counseling as well as experience as a high school counselor. “Helping students find their passion in life and guiding them towards that goal is what drew me to WVU,” she notes. She has taken this experience and passion into the relationships she builds with her students, and they certainly appreciate it. Last year, Jenna was the most nominated adviser for the Nicholas Evans Excellence in Advising Awards.
Jenna works hard on student success initiatives and collaborates with faculty and staff on various projects. Whether working with first generation students or other college retention initiatives, Jenna marks this collaboration as a “top tier” reason she enjoys advising. Her colleagues agree. “I am not sure how we, or our students, ever functioned without her on the Davis College Team,” Jessica Blythe, Associate Professor, Agricultural Extension Education remarks.
Even though Jenna is always growing in her own profession – she became a certified Strengths coach in May! – she always centers her students in her work. “I feel like I truly have the hardest working students,” Jenna says. “I’m honored to be their adviser.”
She has lots of advice for students. “Be willing to learn and open your mind to new opportunities. Find some type of organizational/planning method that works for you and stick to it. Go to class!! Balance your fun time and school time, because both are important.”
