Marilyn Munzer

Senior Academic Adviser
Statler Advising Center

Restorative, Strategic, Individualization, Futuristic, Activator

“Get to know your adviser. We are here to support you and genuinely want to know your goals and motivations for being here. The better we know each other, the better job I can do to support you in achieving those goals.”

Academic advisers who were recently hired to WVU likely know Marilyn Munzer from her outreach to welcome them into the network of advising professionals with lunch get-togethers, Teams chats, and all-around friendliness. “I really enjoy being a part of and supporting the advising community at WVU,” Marilyn says. “There are a lot of amazing advisers on campus and getting to know them better has helped me to become a better adviser.”

Marilyn pursued a career in academic advising because she has a passion for collaboration and problem solving. She uses that passion to support her Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Environmental, Industrial, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering students throughout their academic journeys at WVU. “My favorite part about being an adviser is working with the students and navigating tricky situations. I am in their corner all the way and love supporting them through challenges and in achieving their goals.”

Although Marilyn does not toot her own horn, we think it is important to recognize her ongoing impact on our advising community. Assistant Director Kristin Brewster notes the positive impact Marilyn has on our advising community, saying, “She constantly helps with outreach and recruitment efforts in our college and is always willing to lend an ear to listen and support her colleagues.” Though still early in her career, Marilyn is recognized as an award-winning academic adviser, earning the 2024 Nicholas Evans Excellence in Advising Meritorious Recognition, a 2024 NACADA Region 3 National Conference Scholarship, and most recently, claiming NACADA’s Region 3 Excellence in Advising New Adviser Award for 2025. Be sure to congratulate her when you see her next!
