Update on 2024-25 Financial Aid Processing

|

The FAFSA Simplification Act (Act) was enacted into law as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021. Highlighted in the law was a new streamlined Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The required changes resulted in the FAFSA not available for students to complete until late December. In previous years, the FAFSA was available by October 1.

In addition, last week the Department announced that the new FAFSA did not consider required inflationary adjustments and further corrections are necessary for the Department of Education to process FAFSAs.

As a result of this required correction, the White House and Department of Education announced on January 30, 2024, that schools will now not receive FAFSA information until “the first half of March” – meaning that no schools, including WVU, have received FAFSA data for 2024-25.

Once FAFSAs are received, the WVU Hub will begin reviewing and testing the data for accuracy. The timeline for making award offers is unknown at this time.
