WVU Advisers from Morgantown and Keyser participated in the NACADA Region 3 conference entitled “Just Around the Bend: Steering Your Students Toward Success” held in Greenville, SC from April 15-17.
Michelle Poland and Nick Haas-Brown presented on topics ranging from creating a mission for your advising team to the first year advising experience and how to create strong community networks for student success.
Advisers from Marshall University, Pierpont Community & Technical College, WVU-Parkersburg, Potomac State College and WVU Morgantown also participated in a state meeting to discuss common challenges and opportunities and brainstorm opportunities for a state conference.
Conferences provide an excellent opportunity to network, learn new ideas and strategies from others, keep up with the latest trends in advising, and discover ways to enhance our own work.
Advisers interested in becoming members of NACADA can learn more here as well as discover a wealth of free resources to promote advising growth.
In the coming months advisers can expect to read about more opportunities to connect with NACADA, learn how to submit solid applications for advising awards, write proposals that have a greater chance of being accepted at conference, and discover more opportunities for mentorship and growth through NACADA programs.
The next NACADA conference will be the annual conference held in Pittsburgh on October 27-30, 2024. The next regional conference location and date is still being determined.
