Last year, a group of dedicated new advisers came together to help create a central onboarding module for advising at WVU.
Onboarding practices vary among schools and colleges, as WVU is a decentralized advising environment.
The module will help newly hired advisers discover logistical tools needed to do the job, social and professional networking, and core competencies to gauge progress during the first year on the job.
Implementation begins this fall, and we need your help!
One of the most stressful moments on the job is the realization that something is going wrong in advising interactions with students.
Advisers are encouraged to identify a common experience when things may begin to go wrong and submit their best tips for managing the situation.
Current examples of difficult situations in the model include:
The student is beginning to display signs of crisis during our meeting.
I don’t know the answer to a student’s question.
I told a student incorrect information.
